Hi Jim,

To be clear, I guess at paragraphs, in an attempt to give my proofreader less
to do, but she has a copy of the book. The way we work is that we get copies
of books one of us wants to do from one of the inexpensive book-swapping sites
or Google or Amazon or whatever, so that I have a copy for scanning and she has
a copy for proofing. Then I do the scan, and my best guess on paragraphs, and
she corrects the paragraphs and proofs.

You can also do this by sending your copy of the book to the person willing
(and able) to proof with sight, but the mail time makes it take longer.

Sandi

  Hi Jim,

We're not supposed to guess. Sometimes, the best we can do is to separate
dialogue into its own paragraphs, following rules of grammar and punctuation,
and leaving others unified where we would not leave them that way. Only
someone with a print copy of the book can do this completely accurately.

It's possible that you can get help from someone with a print copy of the
book, or by using books.google.com to look at snippets of the book.
Sorry I can't be more helpful.

  Mayrie

  Hi Mayrie,

Even if it's my best guess?

  Thanks.

  Hi Jim,

Yes, often OCR runs paragraphs together. Please insert paragraph marks where
they belong.

  Hi,

I'm getting back into proofing after a very long absence.

First question: Should I put in paragraph breaks if it looks like the scan
jammed everything together? It seems obvious from context that paragraphs are
run together.

  Thanks.

  Jim
