Hi Roger! I know people have valid complaints concerning MS Word. However, I find it a joy to use when proofreading. I use OpenBook version 8, save all files in RTF format, and proofread them using MS Word 2003. I have JAWS set to announce page breaks, paragraphs, line breaks, and any other formatting that helps me to clean up my scans. Like you, I generally proofread a few pages at a time because it is easier for me to catch scanning errors or spacing issues as I go. However, it isn't necessary to do it that way. The formula Denise provided will work well. Another reason I proofread using Word is that I can delete headers and format title and chapter headings as I proofread the scan. Again, that is a personal preference. Fortunately, I am still able to use MS Word 2003 on my Windows 7 laptop. I'm so grateful that I did not have to learn to use Word 2007 because of the ribbon menus. It's doable--I was just lazy and didn't want to do it. *smile* If you decide to purchase a copy of Word, I would suggest that you attempt to find a legal copy of Word 2003. It seems to me that you might be able to find a legal copy on Amazon or some other online retailer. Blessings.
