Hi, Judy, I have never seen a genealogical chart per se. I've gotten books
where someone has brailled a family tree. Let me see if I can give you a
fake example of how it might have looked.
(line 1) John Jones, b. 1818 d. 1882.
(line 2) m. Ann Sargent b. 1822 d. 1890. George (1844-1862)
Edward b. 1846
M. Emily Crittenden b. 1850)
Anyway, it's kind of complicated. Generally after you write in the
progenitor's name birth date and death date, enumerate marriages and the
name of the spouse with her birth date and death date. Then you have to
write in the names of each child with relevant marriage to spouse, etc. I
could understand a family tree better than a bunch of symbols anyway. The
main thing is any body related to the progenitor is slightly indented from
him or her. I probably didn't do this right since it's been awhile since I
saw a family tree Brailled. I saw one when I was reading the Poldark series
by Winston Graham and I think I saw another when I was reading a series of
books by Philippa Carr. I'm sorry if the example I wrote was kind of crude
but this is my best guess. Regards, Kim Friedman.

Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Pedigree or genealogy charts

I need some help here. smile. How are genealogy or pedigree chart presented
so that they make sense for blind readers?

A book I'm proofreading has a very detailed pedigree chart in it, and I am
at a total loss as to how to translate it into something workable for a
blind reader.
