[bksvol-discuss] Re: Pay It Forward

I just checked the version on the list and although I didn't read the whole
thing, I did enough checking to find it an excellent scan. We don't know unless
the scanner wants to tell us whether he checked the scanit link on the wish
list but it is very possible that he did. There has simply got to be a better
way! In my opinion this is a far too serious issue to be allowed to continue
even if it is going to cost Bookshare some money to correct it. I don't think
money is the main issue here as far as volunteers are concerned; it is the
wasted time. Since Gerald is one of our computer knowledgeable people on the
list, I would like to know if there isn't some way that the wish list could
show when someone has used the scanit link since obviously there isn't staff
available to monitor it on a very frequent basis.

Those of you who submitted duplicate copies, did anyone check which book was
of better quality?

I couldn't agree with you more and it was a lot more of your time wasted
than mine. It seems to me that Bookshare has to have a system whereby a book is
stopped at the submission point if someone else has already checked the scanit
link on the wish list. When it happened to me back before there was a scanit
link, I, like you, told Bookshare that if it happened again I would no longer
be scanning because I had alerted Marissa and the volunteer e-mail list and
didn't know what else I could have done. For those of us who put a lot of work
into these books it simply isn'tfair.

      Jill and Volunteer List,
I checked the scan it link, looked on all lists and posted on this list.
I checked to see if it was in the collection but didn't see it.
This is not the first time I scanned a book that was already scanned and
in the system somewhere. Checking the "Scan it" link is a waste of time. Until
Bookshare comes up with a better system I will no longer waste my time scanning
books from the wish list.
On the volunteer page you should be able to enter a book title and find
out if the book is in the collection, on the download page, waiting for admin.
approval, of being scanned by someone else.
Jill I'm sorry for wasting you time.

Jim, The book was already in the collection. Did you check the scan it
link on the Bookshare wish list before scanning the book? I'm sorry we both
wasted our time.

          Hi Everyone,
My submission of Pay It Forward was rejected without an comment as to
what was wrong or missing with it. If the person is on this list I would like
an email explaining what needs to be corrected.
