Just because opening it in Word didn't fix it doesn't mean you messed up.
The book was probably just submitted in that form and in this particular
case that solution didn't work.
The only other solution is to go through the book determining where page
breaks should be and leaving those in, and removing the ones that do not
belong. In Kurzweil Control-Enter inserts a page break and
Control-Shift-Enter removes one.
