Hi Everyone,

I am pasting below the portion of the volunteer manual dealing with the issue of page breaks, or one of them anyway. Section breaks are not page breaks, and are not interpreted in my experience as such. One book that I validated had been returned to the step 1 page only because the previous validator had not converted the section breaks to page breaks. That was what the note from Claire gave as the reason for returning it to the step 1 page.

3.1.7 Books Must Contain Page Breaks

Bookshare.org has made it a matter of policy to no longer accept books without page breaks. It is part of Bookshare's on-going effort to raise the quality
of books in the collection.

New books should not only contain page breaks but should be paginated the same as the scanned books. This is necessary in order to effectively facilitate
reader discussions, searches, and indexing.

However, Bookshare.org does not wish for a book to be rejected if a book is only missing a few page breaks. As a guideline, a book must have at least 90% of its page breaks and they should be in the correct places. In other words, if there are problems with more than approximately 10% of a book's page breaks, and the validator is unable to fix the problems, then the book should be recommended for rejection.

I'd love for Bookshare staff to comment here, but I really do believe that those section breaks in place of page breaks need to be converted to page breaks.

Peace,
Mayrie
