Kim, I just tested an Open Library protected Daisy book for you. Just in case something had happened to them since the last time I downloaded one I went there and downloaded and unzipped one myself. Here is the URL for it in case you are interested: http://openlibrary.org/books/OL24769406M/The_ultimate_balloon_book/daisy I chose it pretty much at random. I did a search for the key phrase "protected Daisy" and since the first page of results was filled with those classics with too many editions for me to sift through for the protected Daisy one, I went to the address field on my browser and tacked onto the end of the address the additional refinement of "&page=2000." That book was near the top of page 2000. I downloaded it and unzipped it without any problem at all. In order to read it I would have had to transfered it to my Stream and since I was uninterested in reading it I did not go that far. So it seems to be working okay. If you cannot get the one you are dealing with to unzip my guess is that you have a corrupted file and you should download it and try again. If it still won't unzip then try downloading another book and see if that works.

As far as I know the NLS has nothing to do with Open Library, so it would not do any good to contact them about any problem you might have with a book from there. Open Library just has their protected Daisy books synchronized with NLS keys so that unqualified people can't use their books. Unzipping them shouldn't have anything to do with the key anyway. The key just allows the book to be read once it is unzippped and loaded. I would think it has something to do with the download. Try downloading it again.

Hi, Roger, I downloaded a book by Wadsworth on Drama in Protected Daisy.
For the life of me, I couldn't unzip that file. I'm wondering if I
should email NLS about this? Regards, Kim Friedman.

I have never had to use a password for Open Library books. They just
assume
that if you have a device with an NLS key installed on it then you must
be
qualified.

Hi, Roger, I found out the protected Daisy Books have a password.
Unfortunately, I don't know what password they use. I've also sent an
email to openlibrary.org about what I'm telling you. What did you have

to do to get a password for downloading protected Daisy files from
there? Regards, Kim Friedman.

To find the books at Open Library that are not also at Gutenberg try
adding the key words "protected Daisy" as well as "accessible book."
Be sure to use
the quotation marks again. To refine your search further just use
other
key
words or click the refining tags at the bottom of each page of search
results. It is those tags at the bottom of the page that I mean when I
refer
to user tags. When you find the catalog listing for any book click the
edit
tab and you can add or remove those tags. Let me also advise this.
When
you
start to use any site always be sure to read all the FAQ and any other
informational material that the site has available. That can really
make
any
site easier to use and cut down on the number of questions you will
have
to
ask other users.

Hi, Roger, I've managed to download a drama anthology from open
library. What I want to know are the books not at gutenberg.org. I
did

put "accessible books" in quotation marks as you suggest. I got a lot

of stuff by Dickens, Shakespeare, etc. How does one find the other
stuff? Regards, Kim Friedman. P.S.: Your message was very helpful. K.

Do a key word search at Open Library for "accessible book." Be sure
to

enclose the phrase in quotation marks to avoid picking up books that
just happen to have those words in the catalog entry seperately. The
results will be in the hundreds of thousands. It will include nearly
everything Gutenberg
has plus protected Daisy books that are still in copyright. Click the
title
of any of the results you are interested in and on the catalog page
you
will
find a linkk to Daisy somewhere there. Click that and you will be on
a page that tells you about Daisy and there will also be a link for
downloading
the
book. Open Library is primarily a catalog and lists nearly
twenty-five million books if you count the various editions. The ones

that can be downloaded number in the hundreds of thousands though and

there are
some

very obscure ones.

What is openlibrary? Does it just list books or does it have books
that you can download? If so, I have not found a way to do so
although I
think
I found somewhere that they had availability for people with
disability
could get donwloloaded versions of over a million books and not just
ones
out of copyright date. Is this true or not, and if so how does it
work as
I saw only classics in a quick browse. Any info on this is
appreciated,
but you may please write privately so as not to clutter list. Thank
you.
I am always looking for new sources of material because even though
Bookshare has a wonderful selection, I like to find more obscure
tings

sometimes. Thanks.
