I kind of think that names are an individualized thing—whether you capitalize,
use a period, etc.
Judy’s original comment was based on grammar, however, and she’s absolutely
right that the plural of Simons is never Simon’s. That would make the name in
the singular Simon.
I don’t have a problem with the direction of this conversation—but it is, in
fact, two conversations on different topics.

Yes, that's true. Now that you remind me I do remember that but I wonder why he
used just plain S instead of S. Maybe one only uses the period after teh
letter if it does tand for a name as, I guess Ulysses S. Grant. Cme to think of
it, I think When I sign my name using my maiden surname initial I don't bother
with a period. . Maybe it's was just simpler and he was little too busy to
want to take teh time to add it smile

I know the S doesn’t stand for a name.

history ( Larry?) knows

I knew there had to be a story there with your passion for grammar and

Sorry you drew the short straw; I think I would have used a handle or middle
name. ;-)

It's a long boring story, having to do with multiple Judys who all had last
names starting with an s on a list back in the ancient days of the internet. I
drew the 'short' straw (nudge, nudge, get it? Short? Lower case s is "short"
compared to uppercase?) and acquired the nickname thereby of Judy s. with a
lowercase s. See? Boring. I told ya. ;-)
