Does your porch light have an up down switch on it? If it does not, they
are pretty easy to get someone (like an electrician) to install. Then you
will know by the switch position. If I have missed something and you
already though of all that, excuse me. I often have to tell if a light is
on by reaching up to it if possible to find out if it is warm.
