Yes, you can update the firmware.  Just log on to the bard site and look down 
towards the bottom of the page.  There’s a link to the update instructions and 
such.

We just discovered that, unlike my Digital Talking Book Player, Lissi's does 
not have the updated firmware that contains the Bookshelf feature that allows 
you to get a blank book cartridge and put multiple books on it. I know there's 
a USB port on the side of these things; can I update the firmware myself from 
some NLS site on the Internet, or do we have to order another player to get 
that feature for her?
