This very hour we mark 2 years since our sweet Nichole’s death. In her memory,
we continue to do children’s books and today Doug and I hope to complete “We’re
in the Wrong Book!” by Richard Byrne. For those old and new who may remember
our daughter Nichole who had severe CP and a passion for reading, this is what
we shared on Facebook.

Life has a funny way of playing tricks on your mind. There are times when you
live in anticipation of a moment in time; a wedding, a birth, vacation... and
it seems like time stands still. Then, in a blink of an eye, the event has
come and gone. There are times when you cling to every moment, savoring every
minute detail, but no matter what you do, it seems like it is over in a flash!
In a few hours we will mark two years in this journey of life without our
beloved youngest daughter, Nichole.
In many ways, it seems like Nichole spent her life waiting in the shadows, or
more specifically, in Cindy's shadow. Not in a negative way, but more like an
understudy learning from a master, while adding in her own unique perspective
on the world. Nichole was the epitome of purity and faith from all we saw in
the life we were blessed to share with her. Nichole defied the odds more times
than I can count and lived 21 very full years.
Doug and I were truly blessed to be among the many people Nichole loved.
Nichole was blessed to be loved by and a part of more than one family. Love is
multiplied, not divided, when it is shared. Nichole was loved deeply by two
sets of parents and all the family that included. Then, as Nichole blossomed
into an incredible young lady, her family expanded with the friendship that
transformed both her life and Tasheina's.
Some people knew Nichole for her love of books and literacy. Others cherished
her prayers and ministry to the Mississippi State University's Women's
basketball team. One thing was never in doubt; Nichole had a pure faith and no
fears of anything in her life. Unshakeable faith and unconditional love are
hard to find these days, but anyone who knew Nichole was blessed to witness
these rare and wonderful qualities.
So, as we mark two years without our unplanned blessing named Nichole, we are
humbled that we shared in a life well lived and a sweet, pure girl who brought
love and sunshine to so many lives. We are reminded we have no clue how many
days or years we may share with those we love, so cherish every moment. Let
those you love know how much you love them. Perform random acts of kindness
and never quit believing that miracles still happen and come in human forms
sometimes.
Nichole, you will always be loved and missed, this side of Heaven. Doug and I
thank every person who loved Nichole and allow us to continue to share her
stories and pictures. One day we will all be together again, but until then we
can relive the "dash" that was her life. Nichole Ashleigh Schreier Maples
