Dear Jana,
I can't answer your question. I'm writing to tell you I look forward to hearing about your progress in getting a new guide dog. I wish terribly I could get my second. I used a cane until I was 39 but was losing confidence in it. My years with my guide dog were my safest and happiest in terms of traveling alone. Now I have 2 pets depending on me and I'm not sure I'm even healthy enough to get another guide.
Keep me informed on or off list. Getting a second dog can be emotional and requires some patience, but I bet it will be so worth it for you.

I understand that poodles are the only dogs that don't shed, which would be handy, I think--and I love the feel of their fur (I think my friend told me that they have fur instead of hair--or vice versa). They do seem intelligent, too.

BTW, when I was at the March CSUN meeting waiting for Donna and Elizabeth I saw more labs, I think, than anything--and I don't think I saw any German Sheperds. Another misconception we sighted people have--that shepherds are the only guide dogs. But I must say I missed them. If I had a choice I'd want one of those. Do any of you know anyone who uses a standard poodle?
