Hi, Julie! I tend to agree, and basically, I do the same thing. I have often wondered how I would refer to myself if I had more usable vision. I know and understand a lot of the arguments for referring to oneself as blind, no matter the degree of visual impairment. Sometimes I use the terms interchangeably, although most of the time, like you, I find it easier to refer to myself as blind. <Smile> However, unlike some, if someone does refer to me as someone who is visually impaired, it certainly doesn't bother me. I figure I can't see any better either way, no matter what label someone pins on me. <LOL> Blessings!

Hi, Jill. I agree with you. I have a little vision myself, but when it comesto asking for help, it's just a lot easier to tell people that I'm blind, because while I do have some usable vision, it's easier than trying to explain to someone how much I can see and how much help is too much or notenough. I've found that, if I tell people I'm visually impaired, they don'tunderstand what that means, and understandably so, since there are so manyvarying degrees of visual impairment. Some people who are low-vision can seewell enough to follow when a sighted person just points to something. Ican't, so it's much easier to just make them think I can't see anything whenit comes to that. I help conduct a group of people who mostly have macular degeneration and are seniors. Ithink if this group was advertised as a group for the blind, the attendancewould drop considerably because these people don't think of themselves as blind, just visually impaired. Although I have a small amount of sight, I, however, refer to myself as blind when asking for assistance.
