Congratulations on your breakthrough.
Naturally, I don't speak for bookshare, but here's my take on your question
about the Granta journals. I don't think you can upload journals (magazines,
not diaries) to bookshare. There are thousands of scholarly journals out
there and most of them would be of assistance to some bookshare members.
However, scanning and validating them all would be a whole new project in
itself.
This is just my take on the matter. Perhaps you should write to
support@xxxxxxxxxxxxx for advice.

The other thing that I did was to change the OP setting that says, "uses
boxes" or something similar to its off state. This may have also caused
some of the problems when reading rtf output in MS Word 2003 and 2007.
So,
my pile of chopped books and Granta magazines will hit the in list pretty
swiftly from now on as I scan and OCR on one PC while working on another.
Also, I never got an answer on how to submit our collection of Granta
literary journals. As it doesn't seem like one can submit periodicals, I
don't know how to proceed. Should I submit them as books with titles like
Granta March 2007 Volume n? I do not think that magazines, even serious
journals have an ISBN number so am completely without a clue as to how to
bypass this item as well.
