I haven't played around with the tool, but I do have a thought on a totally blind individual using it. If you knew a sighted person near you that would like to volunteer, but doesn't feel comfortable enough with technology to do so, they could describe the images to you, and you could do the actual work of entering the description in to the tool. I think that would probably be an exceptional case, though.

Hi Ann, I am trying not to make any unwarranted assumptions but, on the face of it I cannot think of any way that a totally blind person can do this independently. That said, I have asked that the tool be 100% AT compatible for those who are partially-sighted and those who are blind and offering editorial and conceptual help. The truth is, I am very interested to know how best to capture the strategies and acquired knowledge of blind readers in the protocols as well as the tools we develop. Reassuringly this is the same orientation I found as I met with Brazil's experts in image and audio description. So, any and all suggestions are welcome. We have 15,000 images total to do over the next 12 months so I think there are enough to experiment with using whatever ides we can dream up together! Since we need the image descriptions ourselves, it seems reasonable to me that we can't describe them. Just my understanding though. Does one assume that a totally blind person cannot do this work? Ann P. -- Ann K.
