Hello Folks,
A smaller than usual turnout at our most recent meeting, with decidedly mixed
reviews of our book, Sundiver by David Brin. For our next book, we’ve chosen a
tale of conspiracy among advanced humans in the far future in Aristoi by Walter
Jon Williams.
The next meeting of the Science Fiction club will be on Thursday, June 8, 2017.
Place Book Nook at:

Time: 9 PM Eastern, 8 PM Central, 7 PM Mountain, 6 PM Pacific, and 1:00 UTC.
Our book, Aristoi, is available from BARD. The download link is on the
following page:

Here is the NLS annotation:
Gabriel is one of the Aristoi, highly advanced humans who use their mastery of
virtual reality to explore distant places in the electronic world of the
Hyperlogos. He soon learns that a rebellious Aristoi threatens to tamper with
the society's entire data system.
And here is a brief review from Library Journal taken from Amazon’s page for
Aristoi:
In the far future, an elite class of individuals--called aristoi--rules an
interstellar
empire through the benign, disciplined mastery of advanced technologies. Beneath
the facade of universal prosperity, however, lurks a tide of dissension and
madness
that can only be fought from within. Williams ( Voice of the Whirlwind , LJ
5/15/87;
Days of Atonement , LJ 3/15/91) tests the borders of imagination in a novel that
combines brilliant hard science and speculative vision with a firm grip on the
central
humanity of his characters.
Come join us next month to talk about Aristoi, and anything else related to SF
literature.
