Hi guys,It was the information bar and not the firewall. Through messing around and doing several trial runs, I finally successfully shut off the information bar and got it to work!

Hi, Gerald. Windows XP Home does have the Windows firewall, but I don't knowanything about how it works since I use another program. Laura, What does the message in the Information Bar say when you attempt to download a book? Also, are you running XP Home, XP Pro, or XP Media Center? I don't believeHome has the firewall feature, Pro does, and I'm not sure about Media Center. Finally, you didn't mention security software like Norton or McAfee, so should we assume that you don't have any additional security software on your PC? Thanks Gerald and Julie,Gerald I ddn't know you could release the books back in to the pending poolon the uploads page. I was afraid to try any other fixes because if theyfailed I was afraid the book would be out of the pool for a whole week. NowI can do a little trial and error without fear of holding books for too long. Julie yes I'm using the information bar in windows xp, and I can't figureout how to disable it. I did try clicking on it and then selecting downloadfile, but bookshare sees that as an attempt to take the file so when theinformation bar refreshes the page (or whatever it does) so that I can clickon the link to download again, it gives me an error. The other thing I can think of besides what Gerald suggested isthe information bar in Windows XP. You didn't say if that was what you were using or not or if you did, I missed it. are you using JAWS or some other screen reader? An Alt-N will bring up the information bar if that's the problem and you can hit the spacebar then, which opens a menu where you can choose to download the file. Hi, I just signed up with bookshare to be a volunteer last week though I've been a bookshare subscriber for almost 2 years. I'm having a problem and I've already tried several things to fix it. Whenever I click on the link to download the .zip file, my internet explorer blocks the file download. When I click on the message and then select "download file" it refreshes the page. But by the time it refreshes the page, bookshare's site thinks I've already downloaded the book and thus I get an error. Can anyone tell me how to fix this? I'm fairly computer literate and I'vetried several things including: changing the custom security settings in the internet options; security; internet zone i've tried the same with the trusted sites zone (which I've added bookshare too) Thanks, Laura To unsubscribe from this list send a blank Email to bksvol-discuss-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx put the word 'unsubscribe' by itself in the subject line.
