I've actually gotten the Open Office suite to work fairly well for
basic tasks. I wouldn't try validating with it though. The problem
is that FS had to actually create an interface with Microsoft Office,
and that's why we hear things like page breaks. Unless FS and other
screenreader companies spend time on Open Office, it won't have the
same level of functionality. That's also why WordPad doesn't read
page breaks, by the way. No one has programmed JAWS or WE to speak
page breaks or other things in WordPad because they've focused their
finite resources on making Office work better.
