Hi Lori,
I'd like to see all the chapters be linked and just click on a chapter link and then boom all sections are there and you could move by heading. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Lori Castner" <loralee.castner@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>

Hi, Scott,
In a nutshell, yes, navigating the TOC is too much. Each subsection of information is very brief. I read one subsection, then go back to section four, and need to scroll through the TOC to read the next little subsection.

I spend more time navigating around than I do reading information.

I have found some shortcuts after spending quite a lot of time navigating around. When I finish a subsection such as 4I on ellipses, I can go back to Section four and then type V for "visited link". This action takes me to the subsection on ellipses and I can arrow down to the next subsection. That's helpful to me.

However, if each subsection had a "next link" below it, I would have been able to go more quickly from one subsection to the next.

Or as Stacey suggests, if each subsection had a heading, one could read through the whole section uninterrupted.

It is true that once I am familiar with the manual and want to occasionally look up a reference the detailed Table of Contents is helpful, but reading through the manual with this method of navigation is cumbersome until one finds shortcuts.

But since you plan other formats for later use, those formats will be more easily navigated. I just wish that reviewing this version to provide feedback was less cumbersome. Also, if Bookshare plans to retain an online version, easier navigation is really needed.

Thanks for reading this response.
Lori C.

I am not quite sure I follow here.

Clearly you are all encountering something similar that disrupts navigability for you. The first link on the TOC takes you to the start of each chapter. Why not just scroll down the page from there?

Is the issue that scanning the through a detailed TOC is too much? That that the "Go Back" links scattered throughout the chapter text too intrusive or something else entirely?

Thanks

Hi Lori,
That's what I thought when I read the manual a couple days ago.

Stacey, I agree with you; in an online version, it would be much easier to navigate with headings or lists.

Laurrie,
I'd like to see everything on proofreading in one section. Not split by various links. Maybe it could have headings instead.

Hi, Everyone,

Am I the only one who finds this online manual that we are reviewing this week to be extremely cumbersome to navigate? I am reviewing Section 4 about Proofreading, and whenever I complete reading one small section, I wish there were a link that said "next" so that I could just proceed. Am I missing some simple way to read through this document subsection after subsection? I am not a novice at reading documents with links and other internet materials, but this manual prompts me to feel like a total beginner!
Any thoughts appreciated.

Lori C.
