Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Margin issue while editing in Word XP

           Hi,
I scanned a book that is around 370 pages. I scanned in Kurzweil and saved it as an RTF file so I could edit it in Word. I've been editing for a while and (just noticed that the Word document thinks here are 1026 pages in this book. That seemed like an obvious issue of needing to adjust the paper size and margins so that I could be sure I'm editing actual pages and not wasting time with soft page breaks. Trouble is that, I just tried to change the paper size to 8.5 by 20 inches and adjust the margins, but the "bottom margin" box will not accept a small margin. I try to put in 1/2 or 1 inch margin in to maximize my working space. When I click OK to move on, I get a pop up box that says one or more margins are set outside the printing area and asks me if I want Word to fix it. If I click the "fix" button, it defaults to a 9.17 inch bottom margin, which defeats the whole purpose of using bigger paper. Anyone know what could be happening to not allow me to make a smaller bottom margin? I think of myself as pretty Word savvy and have changed margins on paper often before. This is the first time I can think of in which it's giving me this kind of trouble. Because I've done so much editing already in this book, I really don't want to go back to my original copy.

Robin, I got the book. I've proofread several of your books in the past.

Hi - I just uploaded for validation "From Fear to Freedom", a nonfiction, autobiographical book. It's a compelling read.

I think it's pretty clean. I spell checked in in Word; there are lots of proper names, made-up words and old Bible words, so lots of spelling issues to just skip over. I have the hard copy book if the validator needs me to look up something.
