Thank you, Mary. I didn't see your message on the K1000 list, so am glad you sent it both places. No. i wish to replace the long dash with two hyphens. I shall try what you suggest, and see how it works. Solstice Singer Are you a fan of women's music? In case you don't get that one for some reason, or in case anyone else wants the same information, here's the text of that message. Happy scanning and proofing! The symbol for a tab is \t. Do you really want to get rid of long dashes, since they represent a pause in the writing, or do you want to replace them with two hyphens? In either case, if you turn the numeric keypad back to a number pad, hold down the alt key, and press 0151 on the numeric keypad, then hit enter. This will create a long dash in your document, which you can then copy to the clipboard and paste into the find box of the find and replace dialogue. You might be able to create that symbol directly in the find box by typing the character string, but as I don't get rid of long dashes, but convert them to two hyphens, I've never tried that. Hope that helps. For some strange reason, my version of microsoft word has totally crapped out on me. So, I'm needing to make some corrections using K1000. Can someone tell me what the symbols are for Mdashes and tab symbols? I would greatly appreciate it. Solstice Singer Are you a fan of women's music?
