Kurzweil Educational Systems Announces New Kurzweil 1000 Version 11

Minneapolis, MN, October 18, 2006 - Kurzweil Educational Systems, Inc., a
member of Cambium Learning? Technologies, today announced at the Closing the
Gap
conference the release of Kurzweil 1000? Version 11.

The new release offers innovative features that increase user independence,
productivity, and access. Most notable among the new features are the
software's
Forms Recognition capability, Audible Appointment Calendar, and support for
bookmarks and notes for documents in any supported file format.

"Version 11 represents our commitment to developing new features our
customers ask for and to redefining the genre of reading software in the
process,"
said Stephen Baum, Vice President of Engineering, Kurzweil Educational
Systems. "You can implement the most advanced technology into a product, but
unless
it's designed with the end-user's needs in mind, it will fall flat. Kurzweil
1000 is a careful integration of the latest technology implemented towards
distinct user benefits."

Other new program features allow users to insert scanned signatures into
documents, create CDs within the program, scan and recognize within
Microsoft Word,
play audio files, and link their preferred settings to new documents
automatically.

Version 11 features expand on Kurzweil 1000's already extensive list of
reading, writing, editing, and study support tools. The new release will be
ready
to ship to customers in early November 2006.
