If the author still has the rights to distribute themselves, how can they
contact Bookshare for an author donation?

I have an author I want to contact to donate a book.

Hi everyone,

These are excellent questions. I checked in with the Collection Development
Manager here to get a definitive answer and I’m pasting it below:

Kindle is a format proprietary to Amazon, and use of books on Kindle is
regulated by a user agreement between the person using the device and Amazon.
That user agreement includes a stipulation that content will not be shared with
others – regardless of how it was acquired – unless it’s through Amazon’s own
loaning channels. If an author has a digital file of a book that happens to be
up on Kindle, but that they still have rights to distribute themselves, we can
accept that author donation – quite happily! But files direct from Kindle – or
from any ebook source, since we can’t know what user agreement it was
downloaded under – will always be a no-no for us.

Let me know if you have questions!

I have wondered the same thing about Kindle books, especially when they are
free. If they are free to anyone, they should be free to be able to be shared
on Bookshare.

Just my humble opinion. Wink.

Now that you've brought this up, I would like to enlarge the question to ask
whether Kindle books only in that format will be showing up on BookShare as
well as those only in other formats. I have a friend constantly telling me
about authors doing Kindle books which never seem to show up here.

Thanks.

A book I want to scan seems to be only available as an ebook. If I contact
the author, can be submit the book to Bookshare?
