OK, Kaitlyn, I have to admit I was skeptical when you said to wash keyboards
in the dishwasher, but I've been reading PC Hardware in a Nutshell and was
surprised to find that it actually contains instructions for cleaning a
seriously dirty keyboard in a dishwasher. They say they've been doing it
for 20 years.

The instructions say to...

disconnect the keyboard from the computer

put it keys down in the top rack of the dishwasher

secure the cable with a rubber band to keep it from getting tangled in the
dishwasher's moving parts

set dishwasher to gentle, coolest water temperature, and air dry

run through entire cycle using detergent

remove keyboard and thoroughly rinse keys with water

towel dry

place in oven at 150 degrees or lowest temperature

and finally, and I quote "Bake the keyboard until done, usually one to two
hours. Let the keyboard cool, remove, and serve."

OK, fellow skeptics, if you don't believe me and have to see it for
yourself, then download the 3rd edition of PC Hardware in a Nutshell and
take a look in the chapter on keyboards.

Gerald
