Hi Monica and Grace,
Like all software programs, Kurzweil 1000 opens the files and loads them in part as if they were KES, but when saving, the default save is still the original file format, in this case RTF. There are definitely advantages to working in KES format though.

Monica, the F1 keystroke will give feedback in Kurzweil that is often sufficient to explain functions. If not, there's the manual accessible under Help. There is of course the list if all else fails.

Yes you can. I edit rtf files in K1000 all the time.
It will not convert to kes automatically.

Subject: [bksvol-discuss] K1000 and RTF Files

Hi. I now have a 30-day demo of K1000. I've been playing with it all day and have a question. Actually, I have a ton of questions, but this is the important one. Can I edit an rtf file inside of k1000? If so, do I need to do some sort of save as or convert process when saving the edited file? I'm under the impression that K1000 converts the rtf to a kes format while I edit it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
