Carrie, You are such a blessing to this community. Thanks for all your dedication and hard work. I will quite happily validate your pile of sci-fi and urban fantacy. And I was so extatic to see "Blood Brothers" that I squeeed! Gisela The artist is nothing without the gift, but the gift is nothing without work. - Emile Zola _____ From: bksvol-discuss-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:bksvol-discuss-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Carrie Karnos Sent: Thursday, January 10, 2008 2:50 PM To: Bookshare Vol Group Subject: [bksvol-discuss] January New York Times bestsellers Hi gang, The bestsellers (and their statuses) are: Hardcover Fiction: T IS FOR TRESPASS, by Sue Grafton (already in the collection) THE DARKEST EVENING OF THE YEAR, by Dean Koontz (someone else is processing it) SHADOW MUSIC, by Julie Garwood (I need to order) Hardcover Non-fiction: A FAMILY CHRISTMAS, by Caroline Kennedy (already in the collection) Paperback Fiction (Trade and Mass-Market): ATONEMENT, by Ian McEwan (already in the collection) BLOOD BROTHERS, by Nora Roberts (already in the collection) WIZARD'S DAUGHTER, by Catherine Coulter (I need to order) IRON KISSED, by Patricia Briggs (I need to order) STAR WARS: LEGACY OF THE FORCE #7: FURY, by Aaron Allston (already in the collection) WEB OF EVIL, by J. A. Jance (already in the collection) DAKOTA HOME, by Debbie Macomber (already in the collection) PS, I LOVE YOU, by Cecelia Ahern (already in the collection) Paperback Non-fiction: CHARLIE WILSON'S WAR, by George Crile (already in the collection) Also processing: The Singing Tree, by Kate Seredy A Natural History of the Senses, by Diane Ackerman Spook: Science Tackles the Afterlife, by Mary Roach I have several comments about the list: 1) It's a fairly short list, because the publishing houses know that people did a lot of book-buying in December, so they're not releasing many books now. I expect next month we'll be back to normal. 2) Since I have several lists of books that I need to process (see #3), I've been hitting the bookstores a lot more frequently. When I see a bestseller, I pick it up, rather than waiting to order it from amazon. Plus I've been ordering from amazon a lot more frequently too. This is why there are so many books already in the collection for January. 3) Some students have been asking for books to be used in their classes, and I've been trying to process them. (You may have noticed some on the new books list lately). And Claire and I are working on finishing the top 100 novels that 2 Times magazine reporters devised, and we're also making every book in the Bookshare Teacher Recommended Reading list excellent. And after all of that is done, I'm going to start working on about 30 donated sci-fi and urban fantasy books that have been calling to me :-) 4) There are still a couple of books left from the November and December New York Times lists. I am planning on doing them, and I think 'An Inconvenient Book' won't be too bad, but 'I Am America' looks like a royal pain. There are several little comments at the side of the main text on each page, which means spending a minute or two rearranging the text on every single page - YUCK! I'd like to just ignore the comments, but Colbert's asides are what give his work a certain zing. The book wouldn't be as funny without them, so I will try to process the book, but don't hold your breath. It's gonna take a while. Just an FYI. 5) I thought someone else was going to process 'Too Late to Say Goodbye'. It's been weeks now without it appearing on any list. Should I get it, and process it?
