Hi Rod,

To get the handy dandy list of things you can do with this list, smile including digest and unsetting digest.

Hello, Rod.
Welcome to the list!

I don't scan yet either and I read different types of books than those your requesting so I'm not much help there. As for getting this list in Digest Mode, I think you can do that by going to the list website. I can't remember but I think it also gives you the instructions on how to do that in the volunteer manual.
Good luck and thanks for volunteering with us.
Christina

Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Introduction

Aloha from Hawaii,

I have just joined this list, and only recently joined Bookshare as a volunteer, although I havwe been a Bookshare member for about four years. I am interested in validating books - especially chess books or suspense-thriller books by authors such as Robert Ludlum, Tom Clancy, Ken Follett and the like. I also hope to get into book scanning soon.

If I might ask three questions here...

1. Can someone please tell me how I can change my subscription to this list to "digest" format?

2. Can someone give me advice as to the "best" (in your opinion) software to sue to scan books? I have OpenBook and OmniPage but really have not set either up properly yet.

3. Can someone recomment a book, chess or thriller, that I can try as my very first validation effort?

I know everyone has their own favorites as to the "best" software, but I once tried scanning a Fodor's Travel Guide to Europe, and the software I was using - I believe an early version of OpenBook - consistantly scanned the word "plane" into "piano". Inasmuch as I did not care to go flying off to Europe on a piano, I lost interest. I hope to be better this time.

Many thanks.

Rod Macdonald
