I'm happy for those of you who received headphones or earbuds or
whatever. This might help explain ( or I'm way off base) and assure you
that, if I'm right, Bookshare didn't have to pay for them, i.e. use
membership money.
Booksshare is based in California. California provides free phones (I
think paid for from taxes we paid on our phone bills) to residents (
maybe bookshare members count as CA residents) no matter their legal
residence)with doctor-certified hearing problems. My husband and I each got
one . Mine was free--my husband bought his-- I think they are available for
a cery modest price on Amazon. They have some nice features -- though one
I Couldn't use well ( what's being said is visible on a screen and what
you say appears on a screen ( not useful if you're blind, of course -- and
there's a big delay, so we didn't get that option)) When I went to the
phone company to get one the person was extremely helpful -- spent a lot of
time explaining how it works and telling us about the delay factor of
the transition from visual to hearing.
