There are a lot of books without an ISBN, most of them published before about 1974 and all of them published before 1968. There are even a few, perhaps a very few, but still a few published today without an ISBN. If yours doesn't have one then do without it. If the ISBN simply did not scan well then figure it out like you figure out anything else in the book that didn't scan well.

Please remember that the ISBN on the book information page should match the one in the book. No one should be getting ISBNs from other sources other than the copyright page of the book. Scanners, be especially careful of this when submitting your scan, and proofreaders, make sure to check for this when checking in your book.
