As I already said more than once, I do not intend to insert the word "page" next to each page number. And I am perfectly well aware that some readers of RFB&D books were, and are, not all that great. My point was that I at least, after not very long reading in some books, including novels, found that I had just tuned out the word "page". There were even times when I became absorbed in what I was reading to the extent of losing track of which page I was on. So I was at times even tuning out the page numbers. So I am very doubtful that, for most people, hearing the word "page" when a new page begins would, in and of itself, be such a traumatic experience as some people seem to think. You just get used to it and it becomes part of the background, but when you need it, it's there. And besides, there are a great many books that RFB&D can do that Bookshare just cannot, or at least cannot do justice to for various reasons. Not all of them are textbooks.

It is not about doing things the way RFB&D does. I'm not about to start typing in the word "page" on every page to prevent such an unlikely event as a page number getting confused with a number in the book. On the other hand, I recognize the strengths and weaknessess of each way of doing things. RFB&D has its strengths and weaknesses, and so does Bookshare. I am glad that I can access both so that I can benefit from those strengths.

Ugh! I thought the point of Bookshare was not to do things like RFB&D. I'm
almost afraid to joke about that since someone here might think it's a great
idea. Reading their books is more like water torture than reading most of
the time. I appreciate their effort, and it was ok for the 1970s. But I
don't want to go back to having books read like that. (shudder) We'd need to
insert some yawns, sneezes, and deep sighs into the daisy files to sound
just right. One guy even blew his nose and scratched while reading. Give me
Paul in Kurzweil any day! At least he has manners!

Hi all,

LOL, Evan, you're funny! Yes, I know that RFB&D does this, but for a
novel, it would seriously impact my enjoyment of reading the book. My
example was over-the-top deliberately.
