Hi Evan. Technically, the scanning device doesn't have to transmit all of the 500 scans in a minute. It is very common for devices to snap pictures rapidly and then send them to a computer at a slower, more even pace. Most digital cameras used for scanning have internal memory, so the transfer rate to a computer or even to a wiriness network could be done more slowly. Think of it as a batch mode scan on steroids. There's not even any communications protocol that I know of that would deliver that much data to the PC for processing, even if the computer could do it. In a few years, though, who knows? They might have to build a scaled-down version for PC's that would be more manageable, but would still be much better and faster than what we have now.
