Hi Kristin,
I suggest a good place to start is the proofing manual. It's here:
https://www.bookshare.org/cms/proofreading-home
The section called "Images" has a lot of information to help you. For example:
[Picture description] is incorrect. the manual says to use the word Image
followed by a colon and then the text of the description. Enclose it all in
square brackets.
The location on the page, or which order you put things isn't really
important--just try not to have an image description that splits a paragraph of
text.

Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Hey there everyone is there a specific way to deal
with images or pictures throughout a book of fiction thanks?
Good afternoon everyone!
Hopefully everyone is having a great day here at bookshare! Say, I am
working on the following science fiction novel of: MASTERS OF FLUX &
ANCHOR
(SOUL RIDER BOOK THREE) By JACK L. CHALKER. I am all most ready to
submit this one for the approval process, however I was wondering if
there was a specific way to deal with images or pictures throughout
this book? It just says in brackets picture description along with a
detailed description of a map for parts of the different lands in this
book. In my last novel that had pictures or images there was a set
pattern of where I was suppose to put stuff and I was wondering should
I be following that pattern for this one? The pattern went like this
of:
[Image: then the description of the map would probably go here.]
Lastly there would be a caption which this one doesn't have that but I
was wondering if I need to put the map in the way I have all ready
explained here within my e-mail or should I just leave it like it is
within the book? Sorry for the very confusing questions here however I
just want to get this right before submiting the book. Thanks for all
of your help and suggestions here and I do hope everyone is having a
great day!
Kristin
