Hi Lori,

You came across an interesting one!
Let's do the easy first, there are no hard page breaks in the file, they're all section breaks to the tune of the 278 you were getting for page breaks. I suspect this book was scanned using the stand alone version of FineReader, which if I'm not mistaken seems to prefer section breaks to hard page breaks.

Now comes the hinky part.
I think whoever submitted the book used Word 2007 to clean it up, or at least a version since 2004, as it has a number of new Rtf codes in it that would confuse older versions of Word and probably many other programs that read Rtf. (Thanks Microsoft!) The code that got me looking was right at the top of the file, the first few characters in the file (if you look at it with a text editor, not Word) are:
{\rtf1\adeflang1025

Now not that you probably really care, but adeflang is a control word that was introduced around 2004, and along with the 1025, indicates that the character set is for an Arabic font.

Now this in itself isn't a problem, unless you're trying to edit with an older version of Word. Even if you are, there's hope.

For anyone with Word 2000, 2002, or 2003, take a look at the Microsoft web page article,
"Open a Word 2007 document in an earlier version of Word."
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/word/HA100444731033.aspx

You will need to install the Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for 2007 Office.

Download and/or install
FileFormatConverters.exe

After I did this Word behaved itself and didn't do strange things when I loaded the book, and did a search and replace.

Hi, Everyone,

Last evening I downloaded a book to validate. The book is "Practicing Theology Beliefs and Practices in Christian Life by Miroslav Vol, and Dorothy C. Bass. It is an .rtf file.

The file had around 278 page breaks and almost an equal number of section breaks. I found the technique for replacing section breaks with page breaks: find caret b and replace with caret m. And I used replace all.

After the replacement the file had one section, did not list page breaks, and had only one letter per line. I'm not sure if I did something wrong; possibly I should have replace the section breaks with nothing. I'm new to editing with Word so don't know if I did something incorrectly or if there is a problem with the file.

I released the book. If someone could download the book, check to see how to correct the file and email me privately saying what I should do, I would appreciate it. Then I would be happy to download and validate the book.

If the file needs to be rejected, then the person could just do that and let me know.

If this request is something that should not be done, just let me know.
