DJ was on his birth certificate and don't ask me why his parents did that..
Then when he was old enough to have a say in things he gave himself another
name; his first name was Daryl but I can't remember his middle name. He
went through a judge and had it made legal.

Interesting. Do you mean that his parents actually
named him DJ (after all, so many people are called
just by their initials, why bother with actual names,
smile) or that he had other names but the later
changed his name to start with DJ?
