Check under "books in Process" and then check the "waiting for approval"
link.
I had the same problem Thursday with a book, but it stayed in my checked out
books after I checked it in.
Finally it disappeared from that list and showed in the "waiting for
approval", but there was a definite "hang up" in getting it checked in.

I just checked in a book I've been working on. It seemed to hang up when I
hit the check-in button at the end of the process, and I had to hit it
again.
The book disappeared from my list of checked-out books, but I'm a bit
worried that it disappeared without going anywhere.
