Hi Roger, To answer your questions, books sent to Bookshare.org can be returned, and yes the scanning process is destructive in the sense that the books are de-spined for scanning. In terms of in-house scanning Carrie has to prioritize based on educational content etc, student requests etc so the speed with which a book sent in gets processed will depend largely on current priorities. The request for Pathfinder Press was forwarded to the Publisher Liaison, and I sent her another note today and she has responded that she will touch base with you on any progress in that area. She is always happy to hear from volunteers/members about publishers they would like to see in the collection. All good things, Pavi Pavi Mehta Volunteer Coordinator, Bookshare Benetech 480 S. Can the books be returned? Is the Bookshare scanning process a destructive one? Whether it is or not I would have a hard time affording the number of books I would really like to see scanned for the collection and I don't think it would be a good idea to borrow books from the library and ship them off to California. That is not to say that when I ask that a book be added to the wish list I expect someone else to take on the expense. I just suppose that if someone else is making a trip to the library or browsing a used book sale for the express purpose of accumulating books to add to the Bookshare collection then if I have a number of titles on the wish list I stand a much better chance of getting lucky than if I didn't put them there at all. I have done one additional thing and am contemplating another thing to get them into the collection though. First, I did send a message to Pavi asking her to inform the publisher liaison that it would be appreciated if Pathfinder Press could be contacted about supplying some publisher quality books. Second, I am looking into scannning some myself. I am hesitant to launch into that because I have not done that before and the general discussion here tells me that beginning scanners tend to make a lot of mistakes and I would hate to put a lot of work into it just to have my submissions rejected.
