Sicne there seems to be a glitch between our mailboxes, I'll just resend this to the list. It's pretty much on topic anyway.

Hi Mayrie,
Sorry it took so much time to get back to you; I'm not ignoring you, I just had personal issues get in the way. I'm not sure why you didn't get my message before, I'm going to send a message to the list when I finish writing this to let you know I've sent it in case it doesn't arrive. Thank you for explaining your reasoning for using the settings you use so clearly. I can understand how frustrating it would be to stop to edit a word and find yourself 10 words away. This used to happen to me using MS Word, which was why I switched and started doing all my editing in Kurzweil. If you're having this problem in Kurzweil, it may be that your computer is slow either because it's an older computer or because it's doing something else while you're trying to edit. Do you usually edit while scanning something else, or more importantly while Kurzweil is recognizing something else? This will cause a definite slow-down. If not and you have a reasonably fast computer, you might want to ask the list if anyone has suggestions for speeding up your machine. It might solve the frustration you're suffering with editing.

I would be willing to take a look at the book you mentioned to see if the linebreaks are there, but you might be able to check easily yourself. When Kurzweil reads a line, hit end and look around for something that says "newline." If those are there and it's not the end of a paragraph, then the breaks are still there. Another reason why not having these arbitrary line breaks is that some speech synthesizers pause for the end of each paragraph. Some of them have settings to control this feature, but others do not, so this causes pauses that interrupt the flow of the book. Let me know if you receive this message, and I'll help you out the best I can,
Thanks,
Kellie
