I'm the attorney who gave the FIA Copyright Seminar a couple of years ago.
I suggest that you go onto the Copyright Office Website and read a
publication called "Copyright Basics". Here's the site:
http://www.copyright.gov/circs/circ1.html That publication should answer
your questions about the basics of what copyright is and how to file an
application for registration of a copyright. On the home page of the
Copyright Office Website you can also punch up a link of "Frequently Asked
Questions About Copyright".
