Sue,
Thank you so much. That was extremely helpful. After playing around with it
last night, I did figure out how to backup and restore to and from the card.
But that only backs up all files to the card and I wanted to know how to work
with individual files. So, thank you for the help.

Lisa

  Hi Lisa,

I am forwarding instructions Julie Morales sent me to start me off. These
instructions explain it much better than I would. Also, at that time Julie
said anyone could e-mail her offlist for help. As for the manual, I know what
you mean. There is absolutely nothing about this in it, and very little about
some other things..

As for how to get things from your computer to the FC, you go to wherever you
have the books or whatever on your computer. I have them in "my documents".
When you find the file you wish to transfer, do alt-E for edit, then arrow down
to copy and click on it. Then you go to your new removable disk drive, click
to open it. The flash card must be in it. Then you just have to paste what
you copied and you're done. Then you can follow the commands Julie gives. You
will love it!! If you have any more questions holler. <smile>

Hi, Sue. I usually get back to people pretty quickly when it's off-list
because I have all my mail going to different folders for the various lists I'm
on. Anyway, when you put the card in the slot, you go into the file menu like
you normally would. Then, there are two ways you can access the card. Pressing
the letter a will access the card files, and you can navigate the files using
the typical dots 1 and 4 chords and doing an e-chord to open any folders you
might have. The o-chord also works to open the files, just like it normally
would. The other way to access the files is to do a dots 4,5 chord, and that
toggles between the flash card files and the notetaker files, so if you do a
dots 4,5 chord and go into the list of card files, then you can do dots 4,5
chord again to go back to the notetaker file menu. If you want to edit
something on a flash card, you'll have to copy it to the notetaker first. To do
that, select the file you want to copy from within the flash card file list and
do the combination of dots 1, 4 and 8. That'll copy the file to the notetaker,
provided there's enough room in the Ram Startup folder. If you just want to
read a file and not edit, you can open the file without copying it. If you have
files on the notetaker that you want to copy to the flash card, do the
combination of dots 1, 2 and 6...not a chord, but just the dots themselves.
You'll be presented with your file list, and the notetaker will say that the
files are not marked. Press the spacebar to mark any files you want to copy to
the flash card. When you've selected all the files you want to copy, do the
same combination you use to copy files from the flash card to the notetaker: 1,
4 and 8. The files will be copied to the card in whichever folder on the card
you previously had open. If you don't have any folders on the card and just
files, you won't have to worry about that, but if you did create folders on the
card, you'll want to access the flash card and open the folder you want the
files to go into, then toggle back to the notetaker file list to copy your
files. I hope this is making some sense, but if you have more questions or want
clarification on anything, feel free to ask. Take care.

    Hi Julie,

I am taking you up on your kind offer to help. I have decided to go with
the flash reader. I have a sighted friend who will help me about the computer
part... But when I insert the card in that slot on the Braille Lite, what are
the commands to transfer a book from the card to the Braille Lite? Any help
you can give will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much, and don't worry if you don't have tiime to answer right
away.

    Regards,

    Sue Stevens
