I think the size of the chapter headings, the titles and so forth are a matter of your personal preference as long as at least two points difference is allowed for each navigation point.

Not sure Tracy. Think the font size is one's own preference too. I too for a long time did the 2-points differences, but then someone said twenty should be the title, 18 the parts and 16 the chapter titles. If there were any other indicators in between those, we could make them 16 and then the chapters 14. So far doing it your way has never gotten a book sent back to me and nor has the 16-point chapter head so I say you can just continue how you are doing it! (smiles) Personally, I take what is said here as true, but if I really needed help I would ask Madeleine since she sits right at Bookshare. A lot of proofing is left to us for format, and Lissi taught me your way, and as I said, nothing ever came back. A lot of folks use different fonts also. I always use Arial but most here use Times New Roman. I had a book that was very interesting to format a week or so ago. I have never seen a book with 2 places with 2 or 3 pages between them where the title of the chapter was written twice with blank pages between and the text after the second rendering of the chapter and title. I put the first title in 16-point and the second in 14-point. Still has not been put in the collection so don't know if that was fine, but it points up that sometimes we just have to do what is necessary for us and our circumstance. The asterisks are another matter, though, but I really don't like them so will begin leaving no blank line after the chapter name. Once again this list is confusing me. I'd probably be better off without it. I thought that what the Daisy needed was a size difference of 2 points to recognize elements. I've been making the title 20, parts 16, chapters 14, and text 12. It was my understanding that this would work well for the converter. I don't use Daisy much myself, but I have checked some of my books, and remember finding chapter headings with no problem. Really, this list is supposed to help volunteers, not confuse the heck out of us. TracySo how is 14 point not larger than 12 point? You *must* put chapters in larger headings font in order for the DAISY converter to know that this is a heading, a DAISY element! Madeleine's mention of putting chapter titles into 14 point font is really confusing. they must be in 16 point or they will not be recognized as a DAISY element. I think this whole issue of the stars is getting everyone all out of kilter! It all started when we were talking about chapter titles that had just single numbers instead of having "chapter" with them. Then, it's morphed into this whole crazy malarkiface about blank lines. The blank lines are immaterial! You don't necessarily need them between chapter titles and the accompanying text, but what you do need, what you have to have, in fact, is the chapter titles in larger font! This is a prerequisite for making a book into DAISY format. Please, let's not have any confusion about chapter heading fonts! Believe me folks, I've made DAISY books in the past, and these font changes *must* be made in order for the DAISY converter to select the text that indicates a new or different DAISY element! Ann P. Given that the space is deleted and the texts are squished together--asterisks or nothing between chapter title and beginning of body. (Since in this book I've begun with the asterisks, I 'll c ontinue, but I want to know for he future. smile CIndy To unsubscribe from this list send a blank Email to bksvol-discuss-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx put the word 'unsubscribe' by itself in the subject line.
