Saving a copy of your latest edited version is great, so long as you didn't screw up and save it after you did so. Then you need the original.

As for just going to your checked out books page to get it again, that is certainly not very difficult. But obtaining a copy from your own hard drive certainly involves fewer steps than logging onto Bookshare, if necessary, then going to the volunteer home page, then going down to the appropriate link, clicking on that, then scrolling down to the book you need, then clicking on that, going through the Windows Open or Save dialog box, then finally being able to open the original file you need after it has downloaded. Then, what if your Internet connection goes down, or the Bookshare site goes down? It happens. I would think that it would be pretty obvious that saving a copy of the original on your own PC is a better, safer, option.

What is the point of being so careful to save the original file if you can just go to your checked out books page and click the RTF link to download it again whenever you might need it? It makes a lot more sense to me to save a copy of your latest edited version to fall back on. Hi Stephanie!

Welcome to the world of proofreading!

Please be sure to not work off of the original download. Load it into Word and save as maybe as the filename without your name so that you can distinguish it from the original. No matter how experienced a person is, anyone can have what I call a "dumb" second and save changes that were not wise. I've done it, and I've been proofreading since late October. I also like to have a new file for each proofreading session, though others never do that, so that is a personal choice. I save each copy with a number so 1 gets saved as 2 in the filename, and so on.

It doesn't matter how you choose to handle this as long as you have a virgin file to fall back on if necessary..

I hope it is alright, I am trying to proofread my first book here and was wondering who I sure open it. I have open it with Word but I was wondering if this was a mistake. Just wondering. OH! Does someone check behind you after you release it as I don't want to make a mistake..
