Hi everyone. I've got some exciting news for e-book fans including a way to get a free copy of QRead, a computer program that helps people read e-books including Bookshare files. Sunday night is a special event you won't want to miss. :) When: On Sunday, April 15, 2012, at 9:00 PM Eastern time, 6:00 PM Pacific. Where: on TeamTalk at tt.cucat.org (using the default ports). The Cisco Academy For the Vision Impaired, (CAVI) presents Ebooks for the Blind: Resources and How To Use Them Ali Al-hajamy, Monica Willyard, and Christopher Toth will discuss how to find and use resources for ebooks for the blind. Among other topics, we will talk about Bookshare and its several formats available for reading, including the newly implemented MP3 feature. We'll talk about how to read pdf files, Web Braille and its merits compared to Bookshare, using iBooks, and much more. We will, of course, mention many of the ways books in the formats provided by these websites can be opened and read, and even how to use Calibre to convert ebooks into a more accessible format using a tool created by Simon Jaeger. A major portion of this presentation will concern the new, revolutionary accessible e-reading program created by Christopher Toth of Qwitter and Hope fame, called QRead. You will get to hear a live demo of QRead in action, and see how quickly and efficiently it works with the most popular, but least accessible ebook formats available. Each segment of the presentation will be proceeded by a question and answer session, during which you may ask whatever questions you have about the topic at hand. Additionally, two people who attend this presentation will receive free copies of QRead and Hope, the popular software used by the blind to listen to the Pandora radio service. Please share this email with your friends and invite them to join us. Once again, this will all take place Sunday , April 15, at 9:00 PM EDT, on TeamTalk, at tt.cucat.org (default ports). If you need to test your audio or need help configuring TeamTalk, come to the server a little early, and we'll help you get things going. You can also send a message to cavi-instructors@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx or send a Twitter message to @ciscovision for more information. We hope to see you there.
