Hi Kim,
Actually, the program is and was in your start menu. You just needed to go
deeper than you originally looked to find it. You didn't leave the start
menu when you entered accessories. You just went one level deeper in your
list of programs on your computer. Think of it like this, maybe. Your
programs appear inside what is called "programs" in your start menu.
Accessories is just a kind of folder that contains a group of other programs
that Windows thinks are logically grouped together. So, you didn't leave
your start menu. Think of your start menu as a closet. The closet has
shelves, and on one shelf labeled "programs" there is a file box that is
called accessories. Also on that shelf are loose CD's each labeled with a
program name. It's just that the file box labeled "accessories" has a bunch
of loose CD's in it. Organization hit the accessories but nothing else on
that shelf.
Did I just totally confuse you? I'm sorry if I did. I just didn't want you
to think you somehow left the start menu when you didn't. If my
explanations are clear as mud to you, please, just ignore me and be proud of
yourself for having found what you needed, however you did it.
Okay, shutting up now, and going to make coffee, because I'm really afraid
that my analogies are way too convoluted.

files folder, enter the Accessories folder and I found WordPad. It wasn't on

Hi Kim,
If you press the windows key, and then the letter r, then type wordpad, the
program should run.
And, as Melissa said, if you go into accessories under programs, you can
then hit the letter w until you hear "wordpad" spoken and open it there, or
continue with Melissa's instructions for how to create a desktop shortcut.
Sometimes up arrowing in your list of programs won't work as you think it
should, because, unlike your documents, programs listed in your start menu
do not automatically get reordered alphabetically when you add new ones, but
sometimes appear to remain in order of addition to your computer.
So, maybe try start button, programs, accessories, and then hitting w until
you hear wordpad spoken, then hit enter to open it, or use the applications
key as Melissa said to create the desktop shortcut.

Hi, I want to find WordPad and put an icon for it on my desktop (computer,
not actual). How do I go about doing this as it doesn't seem to be in my
program files or if it is, it's a mystery to me where it's lurking. I'm sure
I have it, it's locating the little bugger that has me stymied. Can you
