You indeed loose images, but frankly smile I don't need them.

The layout information is not lost if you check the right boxes in the 
converter.

If rtf is a standard, somebody forgot to tell Microsoft.  They have
changed one aspect in later versions of office.  I don't know how
beneficial it often is, but when you convert to rtf from .kes you lose
layout information, and images if they were kept.
