Julie, Something already has been done to make people understand that they shouldn't use et al in the author field and shouldn't use commas in the author field except to separate authors. Carrie covers both in her tip for filling in the fields on the forms. The tip is called Guidelines For Submission Fields and can be found on Jake's website. People, if you haven't read this tip, then please go read it. It will help keep the info in the database consistent as well as help you keep from having books kicked back to the Step 1 page. If there's a must read for the tips, then this is it. The URL for the site can be found below in Grace's signature. While you're there, also check out the following: Verifying Copy Right Information Restrictions on Long Synopsis Replacing potential problem characters The first two also have information which can help prevent you from having a book kicked back to the Step 1 page. The last contains info on characters that cause problems in the books, and Jake recently stated that it is the most popular tip and that he feels it is a must read. You'll probably find some other tips that you'll want to read as well if you've never been to the site. Legally we have to list all authors even if it's a dozen. I have noticed people listing Et Al in anthologies, and of course when this happens the book gets kicked back. *** Grace For scanning and validating tips check out http://www.jbrownell.com/bks/tl.asp For ideas of books to scan check out: the No Book Left Behind AKA Reject list http://www.jbrownell.com/bks/reject.asp Rescan List http://www.jbrownell.com/bks/rescan.asp ----- Original Message ----- From: Julie Morales <mailto:mercy421@xxxxxxxxx> To: bksvol-discuss@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Friday, May 05, 2006 9:21 PM Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Et Al. not being an author I think something somehow should be done to make people understand that, although it might look correct, and in most cases, it is, putting a comma between the author and something like et al is going to make the system think that's actually an author. I've seen stuff like this all the time and wonder how many invalid authors are actually on the system because of this. Take care. Julie Morales Life is a gift from God. This is only a few as I did not go through the entire list. Many of these need copyright holder verification, incomplete titles or missing authors. Et al. is not an author. Happy validating. *smile* And as always if there are questions don't hesitate to ask on the list.
