Hi Chelsea,
Go to the Settings menu in Kurzweil and select “Recognition.” Press Enter on
it, then tab, once, I think, to “One page will be recognized.” Down-arrow once
to make it say “Two pages will be scanned.” You have now set it to scan two
pages at a time. To do this, you must press down very hard on the book, so you
get all the letters in the inside margins. I do it all the time, but it may
take several tries to get it down.
As for the h’s that are 11’s, that indicates your current setup is not optimal
for contrast. As Evan suggests, use the Optimization feature to reset the
contrast to stop that. For the best scans, I use Abbyy Finereader as the
scanning engine most of the time. And as a scanner, you are not only allowed
to, but required to fix as many of the errors created by the scanner as you
can. What you may not fix are errors that appear in the printed text, such as a
repeated word, a word with a typo or a misspelling, etc.
I hope this helps.

Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Errors
Hi everyone!
So, tonight, I have begun scanning one of the books I have received. So far,
it’s doing an OK job, but I am definitely seeing some errors. Lots of 11s in
place of h and stuff like that. I feel compelled to clean up some of them,
especially ones that I know I can fix. Can I do this, or do I have to leave it
the way that is, even if it’s pretty bad?
Also, right now, my scanner is saving the file as a KES document. When I have
finished scanning the book, and save it as an RTF for book share, will it put
in the page breaks, or do I have to do that manually? The reason I ask is
because my scanner identifies the page breaks, but only for each newly scanned
page. In other words, there are actually two print pages on one scanned page if
that makes sense.
Thanks for all your help!
