When you enter on the book name use space with X or enter with X and you will, as you repeat the command repeatedly, see the types of different files you might need. When you see .doc just enter. By the way, hope you have a braille keyboard and not a qwerty or ignore this is the word and sorry for cluttering up your day. Hope it helps, though, and hope you can open in Word. Sometimes those BN files are a real bear!

Hi Debby. That sounds like a good guess. I don't know how to make the BN save as a .doc file, though. If anyone does, please let me know the trick. TracyHi Tracy! I don't have a BrailleNote, so I can't say specifically, but I'll take a guess based on an experience I have. I scan with OpenBook 7. Although I can save the ark file directly as an RTF, I don't, because MS Word doesn't like it. I get some kind of error that I can't remember what it is, because it's been about two years since I tried that. I must save as a doc file first while still inOpenBook. OpenBook's version of a Word document is Word version 6, 7, and8, I think, so that's why Word 2003 doesn't like the RTF from OpenBook. Then I can open the doc file in Word by just hitting enter on it, and, whether I leave it as is and change it by saving as an RTF or first changing it to a Word 2003 doc file and then to an RTF, all is well. I wanted to experiment both ways when I first discovered the problem. Perhaps there is something with the BrailleNote file that is similar. Debby At 12:42 PM 10/5/2011, Tracy Carcione wroteI was able to retrieve my file by going to Wordpad on my PC and opening the file I'd copied from the BN, then re-saving it under a different name. Klooge! But at least I have my work. I'd still like to know why Word won't open the file directly, though.
