[bksvol-discuss] Re: Duplicate On Step 1

Depends on who uploaded them. If it's the same person which was the case with the book that started this discussion, the books would most likely either be even or the second would be an improvement. In the case where two different uploaders put up the same book, you'd right, of course.

Well, I beg to differ, Gary. Just suppose the older file is a fair quality
scan, and the more recent one is of excellent quality. A human needs to
download and compare the two submissions. The system cannot evaluate this
correctly. Conversely, the fair quality may be the best one if there are a
lot of foreign words and phrases in the submission, but it does need to be
checked. We want the highest quality possible for bookshare.

Remove the oldest file.

Yes indeed. It's entirely possible to submit duplicates of a file -- in
which case (if you catch the repeat) you'd want to shoot over a note to
let us know, and we'd go in and remove the duplicate.

Hi Pavi,
Is it possible to submit the same book file twice?

Thanks.

Hi Jim,

There are indeed two submissions of this text -- thanks for pointing out
the duplication.

In such cases, any volunteer who feels inspired to do so, can download
both
versions and check them against each other to determine which is the
higher
quality scan. They can then reject the other and start validation on the
better quality one.

All good things,
