I came to Dick Francis rather late, as in only a couple years ago, after Lissi encouraged me to give him a try. We've read all four of the Sid Halley books together, and we are planning others by him in the future. As soon as I started reading him, I was struck by the clarity of his writing. He had this natural ability to just bring his characters and surroundings to life in a way that many writers, often those who write more intellectually, didn't seem to be able to do. His writing seemed to have this vivid quality that had a way of putting me right there in the setting with memorable characters that made his books stick with me more than most of the other books I've read in that genre. He and his son, Felix, had finished and were editing what will now be his final novel, Crossfire. Judy s.
