Jill, I presume you are talking about the row of numbers at the top of the keyboard. No good. I tried doing that and it just bonks at me. You have to use the numeric keypad for this.

Evan, Could you have also entered the numbers from the keyboard?

Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Creating Special Characters in K1000

The other day I wrote here that the only way I knew of to create special characters in K1000 was to disable the K1000 keypad and use the numeric keypad and enter the ASCII values. I just assumed that that was true; I had no reason to believe the numeric keypad would work at the same time the K1000 keypad was enabled. But I was wrong. As an experiment, I tried doing it with the K1000 keypad still enabled and it worked. I was able to enter the em dash - which K1000 calls the long dash - ASCII value 151, into the search box without disabling the K1000 keypad by holding down the alt key and entering 0151 on the numeric keypad.

This means that if one likes K1000's keypad functions, as I do, one can keep them and still enter any special characters one needs. Much less inconvenience. That's one of those things it's good to be wrong about. <smile>
